I still need to do a Suffs write up, but that was hard this week because Canton closed Suffs Sunday and we immediately drove to Richmond for the National Speech and Debate finals. Back in February, Canton qualified for Nationals and has been working on his piece along with Mamma Mia, Suffs, choir, vhsl speech, and 6 AP classes. Canton made the cut from 300ish in Humorous Interpretation to the top 60. Although he was not on stage for the final 6 performers, we are so proud of his hard work and dedication! Speech is incredibly difficult, a 10 minute marathon of jokes and popping into nearly a dozen different characters. Thanks to Stone for supporting him. The team was incredibly small when Canton was a freshman, Canton getting the first state medal in over a decade, but he took on the challenge of building the team. As a sophomore they took 8 to states and Canton, SashaRyan, and Jay were state champs. This year we took 5 to states and Canton, Gracie, and Lucas were state champs and Dominic placed third. We look forward to his final year of speech performances and hope he can leave a strong team for years to come. Congratulation, Canton!
