Maker!

Canton had is first makers class today! He was so excited to go, not even grumpy to wake up, a first! During introductions they were asked to say their name, age, favorite tool, and something they have made. Canton said DUCT TAPE and his cardboard rocket!

Their mission was to select a toy from a huge pile of broken/discarded toys and try to “hack” them. It was a great intro lesson for safety and learning about various tools. Canton selected a rather difficult toy, between him and three adults we could not get it to work. Which, was just fine for Canton as it turned out. He got a lot of practice with the different types of screwdrivers and was allowed to keep his toy at the end since it didn’t work (ones that could be fixed were returned) so he covered his is duct tape (of course) and pipe cleaners and made a spaceship! ๐Ÿ™‚

He also made a map in Geography with cities named after some elements. During intros he said his favorite country is Russia and the place he most wants to visit is the Mariana Trench (deepest point on earth) ๐Ÿ™‚ (video coming)

Liberty was a trooper! She was happy to sit and watch brother, cuddle with her animals, and play ball for a few minutes.

Liberty at 14 Months!

Liberty continues to grow and learn in her 14 months!

Liberty and I have had a lot of girl time now that brother is off to school. During the day she is so sweet, she loves to read, cuddle, and run around. But, as soon as Canton get home she just wails on the poor boy. Out of no where she will hit him for no apparent reason…we say that is her Hilda May coming out…hopefully that will pass soon. Canton has been a real trooper dealing with her temper. Needless to say, Liberty has been a frequent visitor of time out.

She still has just the one tooth. She hasn’t been eating as well this month, but she has a lot of “reserves” we say, so a few weeks of picky eating won’t hurt her too much. She still loves eggs, yogurt, and green beans. Otherwise, not so much.

She is communicating more but she still doesn’t talk a whole lot. She has added โ€œminโ€ to the list of words she can say which is for her Minnie doll, she also is sooo close to saying “Nanny” (mama, eggs, dada, bruh-bruh, dog). She still uses her signs for water and please. She

Interest wise, she has really began to dance A LOT and her love for animals is growing. She can recognize/point to most typical animals in her books and will make “moo”, “oink”, and “ruff” sounds!

She surprises us each day and we are oh so lucky to have her!

KINDERGARTEN!

Canton woke at 7:15, had a sausage biscuit that took like 25 mins to finish, and we are out the door at 8:02. He saw the bus go by and got pretty scared that he would have to ride it, but once we assured him, he happily continued on the walk.

I wouldn’t say he was excited, more like indifferent. He happily presented Ms. Flanary a HUGE zucchini which got a lot of laughs from the adults in the room. After some hugs and goodbyes he found his seat which was set up with a cool Playdough activity and got to work. He said “I guess I’ll see you at 3, bye love you.” So that was that…

I guess here is the part I could get sappy, but, we are hopeful for a great year and feel so blessed for all the time we have had. I feel like part of me is missing as I sit here with Liberty, but it is another new normal and he has so much good in him to make it a great year.

Thanks to everyone for their support!

Liberty at 13 months!

Liberty sure has learned a lot in her 13 months!

Despite having just one tooth she is eating well, she enjoys EGGS (which she can also say), most fruits, yogurt, plain baked potatoes, and she wouldn’t be from the Holdaway side without loving green beans! Most of her protein comes from baby food still, but she’s getting there.

Speaking of getting there, this girl can fly around the house now! She is getting so fast! No longer does she toddle around, she all but runs!

She communicates well with pointing and grunting, she has added “eggs” to the list of words she can say (mama, dada, bruh-bruh, dog) and signs “water” and “please”, which helps a lot. She also moos and oinks, yay!

Interest wise, despite the princess push from Rhonda, she loves using Canton’s cars and trains, she LOVES animals, being outside, and seeing other babies. She gets so excited to see another baby in the store on on her diaper boxes. She’s a social girl!

She’s also a strong-willed girl. She has no problem standing up for herself or creatively using an object she can find to help her accomplish her goal. She often will pull pillows to stack and help her climb the couch or use her princess car to run into Canton when he’s getting in her face a little too much. Needless to say, she’s begun to visit the time out corner more than a few times! ๐Ÿ™‚

She’s a character and we’re so lucky to have her!
